Gael Clichy has joined Manchester City for an undisclosed fee. After Days of Speculation that linked the French International to the City of Manchester Stadium, the deal is finally done and the left back joins City on a four year deal.
Clichy, who was the last INVINCIBLE in the team now joins former compatriots, Patrick Viera and Kolo Toure at his new club.
Clichy was an integral part of the Arsenal team and had served the club for the past eight years. He had somehow filled the left-back position as his own. He was ever available and has featured for the Gunners 264 times, scoring twice and dished up 10 assists for his team mates. His regular and consistent performances at the club earning him a total of 10 international caps.
Clichy had had a very close relation with his teammates. Stating that he saw Kolo as a big brother and Patrick Viera as a teacher in his life. “When I first came to England, it was Kolo Toure and Patrick Vieira who took me under their wing and really looked after me”, stated Clichy, and now he joins them again at his new club.
Clichy in his farewell note, thanked the Arsenal fans for their support. He also stated that he had made many friends during his time at both Highbury and the Emirates. He had rejoicing memories and thanks everyone for it.
Arsene Wenger also bid his warrior farewell with a blessing. Saying, “We would like to thank Gael for eight years of terrific service to Arsenal, during which time he gave absolutely everything for the club.” And finally said,” Gael leaves with our respect and best wishes. We wish him the very best for his future career.”
The departure of Clichy means that there is another gap for Arsenal to fill. Although Kieran Gibbs has previously filled in for Clichy and has shown some promise but I’m sure that Arsene Wenger would fish for another left-back this season.

As the climax of the transfer window approaches, the London Club finds itself in a difficult situation. With their star players like Fabregas and Nasri being tracked by other clubs, and Clichy gone, this shows the need for some summer signings.
This means that the Gervinho deal may be imminent. And expect more to come soon.
